Max Penson

Here are a few photos by Max Penson.   He was a Belarus who became well known during the early Stalinist period for his photo documentation of Uzbekistan during the period between 1920 to 1940.  It is really immediate and organic work, and shows the racial diversity in Russia that outsiders forget about, thinking as we do in terms of Boris and Natasha (!)  here is a link to learn more about him and his work
